ACT IN FAITH

All of the major faiths support
the protection and care of immigrants.

Scriptural Calls for the Care and Support of Immigrants

  • Hebrew Bible

    • "Don’t mistreat any foreigners who live in your land. Instead, treat them as well as you treat citizens and love them as much as you love yourself. Remember, you were once foreigners in the land of Egypt."  Leviticus 19:33-34

    • "You shall not oppress the stranger, for you know how it feels to be a stranger in a new land for you were a stranger in the land of Egypt." Exodus 23:9

    • "Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow."  Deuteronomy 27:19

    • "Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another."   Zechariah 7:9-10

  • New Testament

    • "I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me."  Matthew 25:35

    • "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."  Luke 10:27

    • Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.
      Hebrews 13:1-3
